He has written widely on political economy, studio history, and the Western in <em>Cinema Journal</em>, <em>Jump Cut</em>, <em>Film and History</em>, <em>Framework</em>, <em>Social Justice</em>, <em>Situations</em>, and <em>Newsday</em>. He is also a film critic on Pacifica Radio.
