Plutarch's "Biographies" not only in ancient times, but also in modern times have become a favorite reading of educated people and have had a strong influence on literature. He was highly regarded by the philosophers Montaigne and Rousseau, based on the biographies of Plutarch, Shakespeare created his Roman tragedies "Coriolanus", "Julius Caesar" and "Antony and Cleopatra". Cornelle and Racine borrowed the plots of their dramas from Plutarch.
In Russia, Plutarch's Biographies have been published several times in various compositions. This edition reproduces exactly the first complete translation from ancient Greek, made by Spiridon Destunis.
