His early short stories were published in men's pulp magazines during the sixties and seventies, and his first novel was published in 1963. George Snyder is committed to writing westerns while pursuing other interests: reading, films, tournament billiards, sailing, snorkelling, ocean fishing, motorcycling, tent camping, metal detecting, gold prospecting/panning, hiking, and travel.
