Amos Lee Mappin receives a visit from the gruff Major Dunphy, who is devoted to his beautiful actress niece, Mary Stannard. Mary has disappeared and the detective soon discovers that she has cancelled her wedding party. More than one man was infatuated with Mary, and Mappin uncovers several clues that must be solved before he can discover what really happened to Mary Stannard.
